Western Parks Trip-Day 7, Saturday, August 15, 2015

We were ready to leave by 8 AM, MST when the slide would not retract.  We’d made the mistake yesterday of not testing the fix after being so elated that it would extend after last evenings' repair.  So David called the same guy who didn’t respond within 15 minutes.  So we tried the other repairman who was at our site by 8:45 and had a repair rendered by 9:15.  We will not extend the slide for the remainder of the trip because the second guy, who used to work in Gatlinburg, TN, said he could not guarantee his fix would last if we encountered many bounces!!  The weld holding the motor used to extend/contract the slide is gone and to fix it would require getting under the sofa.  So we’ll leave the slide in for the remainder of the trip.  Kathie is comfortable sleeping on the extended couch without the extra walking space the slide would afford.

The drive from Flagstaff up US 89 was pleasant driving.  We passed through the Lake Powell/Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.  Lake Powell is dammed and provides much of the electric power to the western states.  It has more shore line than all of the southern US we were told by a Park Ranger.

We arrived at Zion RV Camp about 4 PM MDT and set up in a spot that has nice shade from both directions so we won’t use the awning either!  We rigged up the gas grill to our trailer and had chicken on skewers for dinner and toasted arrival in this awesome area with a Pinot Grigio wine!!!

David was beginning to have some GI problems so he went to bed early.  Kathie and I planned tomorrow’s excursion into Zion National Park.
